Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Implants

What is the implant process like?

At Fullerton General Dentistry in Fullerton, our dedicated staff begins with a thorough evaluation of the patient’s medical and dental history, and Dr. Haag conducts a full exam of the mouth and area surrounding the missing tooth, including x-rays. Once the exam is complete, Dr. Haag talks with the patient and makes recommendations for a comprehensive treatment plan. After answering questions and receiving input from the patient, the process begins as implants are surgically placed in the jawbone under local anesthesia.

The amount of healing time is different for each patient and depends on variables such as the quality and quantity of bone, as well as the type of implant placed. When Dr. Haag determines that the patient has healed adequately, he will use the implant to support a crown, bridge, or denture—completing the process.

Are there different types of dental implants?

The American Dental Association accepts two types of dental implants: the endosteal and the subperiosteal. Most dental implants placed today are endosteal root form fixtures (similar to a man-made tooth root), though Dr. Haag will assess your unique needs. One factor that he will take into consideration in selecting the right type for you is whether your jawbone can adequately support the implant. This can be determined through an exam.

For more information about the types of dental implants and which one may be best for you, call (714) 879-4910 today for an appointment with Dr. Haag in Fullerton.

How many dental implants will I need, Dr. Haag?

Dental implants are ideal for patients who need one or more teeth replaced, but the exact number of implants will be determined by Dr. Haag during the initial exam and included in the treatment plan. Typically, however, one implant is placed for each tooth that will be replaced.

Some of the factors that go into the decision about the number of implants include the quality and quantity of the patient’s bone and the existing anatomy of the bone. Financial considerations are also a factor for some patients. But because we believe that all of our patients in the Fullerton area should have the smile they’ve dreamed of, at Fullerton General Dentistry, we’re committed to offering payment plans that work with your budget.

Our goal at Fullerton General Dentistry is a completely successful procedure, which includes placing enough implants to secure the restorations needed for a healthy, whole smile. It’s a waste of time and money to have an implant fail due to an inadequate number of implants being placed to support the teeth. Dr. Haag and the friendly, experienced team at Fullerton General Dentistry will develop a plan that takes into account your individual needs and resources.
